How ironic losing fat while eating fat. All my life and as a competitive bodybuilder we stayed away from fat to lose weight. When not competing and later in life we ate margarine instead of butter, vegetable oil instead of lard. We took the skin of the chicken. We drank fat free milk. Fat free or low fat cookies, cake , ice cream. Fat Free, Fat Free and Fat Free everywhere. Wow, did they get it wrong.
Today we are curing disease, getting healthy and losing weight eating fat. What they call the Keto Diet or Ketogenic Diet. The Ketogenic Diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that offers numerous health benefits. The Keto diets may even help those with migraines, diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease.
When you reduce your carbohydrates it puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, which turns the body into a fat-burning machine. When this happens your body starts burning fat for energy instead of carbs. Ketones are produced if you eat very few carbs and only moderate amounts of protein. Eating high amounts of protein will converted to blood sugar.
The keto diet was the original way our ancestors ate in primitive times. Man would go out hunting for their food supply. They brought the meat home to cook it and ate every part including the fat. There wasn’t any rice, pasta, sugar, cake, cookies or processed food. We ate very little amount of carbs. As we got civilized we began to eat more carbs. Today, we eat mostly carbs and processed foods which are full of sugar and chemicals. No wonder our society is so sick, weak and tired. Our bodies were not made to eat all those carbs and processed foods.
For the keto diet to work you should eat healthy fats such as Avocados, Nuts, Seeds, Olives, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Ground flaxseed, Salmon and other Fatty Fish, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Coconut Milk, Grass Feed Animal Butter.
To achieve a state of ketosis is not easy and takes lots of planning. It’s not just as simple as cutting carbs. To reach a ketosis state it is recommended to only have about 20-50 grams of net carbs per day. That is an extremely low amount of carbohydrates to eat in a day. Numerous studies have found that diets that promote ketosis is the quickest way to weight loss. It is due in part to their appetite-suppressing effects.
