Millions of Americans will begin their New Years Resolution this month. They will tend to examine the past, leaving the old behind and start fresh for the New Year. We usually gain
We must look to the past at the generations before us when Americans were known as fit, trim people to find the answer to this weight gain epidemic. I was recently watching the comedy team of Abbott and Costello on TV and noticed how times had changed. Costello the fat guy that we loved to laugh at looked more like a main stream American male. In today’s standard he would be considered chubby and not obese. At that time over weight Americans were hard to find. Yet, also in those days gyms were hard to find and muscle building was considered a freakish sub culture. I can relate to this since I started bodybuilding in the 70’s and competed in the eighties. Not until the Governor (Arnold) started making movies did working out become fashionable. Yet, by this time it was to late the average American was out of shape. Let’s get to the root of the problem. In the early 1900’s and into the 1960’s children played hard and got dirty. Adults worked hard and walked to most places. Mom’s cleaned the house, carried and raised their children, cooked and washed the dishes. Today we super size our meals at fast food restaurants, we drive, take elevators and even shop sitting in front of our computers. Most people work in stores, restaurants and offices without sweating or excreting themselves. Children watch TV, play video and computer games and have forgotten how to get dirty and have fun playing with friends. In the past generations everyday life and chores consisted of functional physical exercise. Obviously times and our life styles have changed yet, we can always learn from the past. Learn to have fun, walk, run and play with your family. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Pack a healthy home made lunch. Eat food as close to the way God made it and begin a fun and exciting functional training program for the New Year.
8 months ago I decided to experiment and I developed a program that would get you in great shape without having to spent hours in the gym or becoming a gym rat. But most of all it had to be fun and exciting. The experiment was a success I put together my over 30 years of experience and certifications in the martial arts and fitness (kung fu, Israeli martial arts, Kickboxing, bodybuilding, personal trainer, Pilates, Indian Clubs and Kettlebells) and as a Marine Corps Sergeant to develop a program that will get you in great shape working out twice a week for only one hour. I call it the XFT, Xtreme Functional Training. This program it is not a magical pill but a true mind, body and spirit challenge. Mind you this is not your typical aerobic health club and weight machine workout. You will need to be consistent and sweat. It doesn’t matter what shape you are in what matters is your attitude and determination to finally look awesome and finally fulfill your New Years Resolution.
A typical routine involves a warm-up, swinging Indian Clubbells, followed by a rapid-fire Kickboxing routine, explosive Kettlebell training, and functional abdominal workout, all ending with a fusion of mind, body, and spirit exercises. The body follows the mind so if you believe in yourself and make a commitment to be fit for the rest of your life you will see incredible results in just 2 hours a week. You can defy the laws of nature by building the most incredible body in your teens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties and beyond. Take the challenge and finally get in the greatest shape of your life this year.
8 to 10
pounds between Halloween and Christmas. Every year we begin the year with the hope that this will finally be the year that you will stick to your fitness goals. Yet, the truth is that Americans have become are a lot fatter. Adults are 25 pounds heavier than they were in the early sixties and the trends are the same for children the average 10 year old weighs eleven pounds more today. Let’s face reality another year has passed by and if you honestly look at yourself in the mirror and at your photos of a year ago most of you have gained weight. You might have started off great last year but before February you had stopped dieting and going to the gym and I don’t blame you. Diets do not work and going to the gym can be boring to most people.
