Most of you might know Andy Perez by his Telenovela (Spanish Soap Opera) name Cassius Dupont from his role in Relaciones Peligrosas. I know him as a friend, Christian brother, martial artist and athlete. Let me tell you how I met Andy. I notice this young man trying out my XFT (Xtreme Functional Training) Bootcamp wearing kung fu pants. I went to look at his application and noticed that he wrote yes under the category of have you taken martial arts before. Where it said where have you studied martial arts he wrote New Jersey. When I saw New Jersey and considering he was wearing kung fu pants I speculated that he must have studied with Pedro Cepero Yee one of the top and most recognized kung fu instructors in the U.S.
I asked Andy what style of martial arts and who he studied under. His reply was Hung Ga Kung Fu under Sifu (Teacher in Chinese) Cepero. He told me that he was a a Kung Fu disciple of Sifu Cepero and a Black Sash (Belt.) Andy also told me that he was looking for a Hung Gar Kung Fu school in Miami by way of the internet and he found me, but after considering it he felt that he would rather do my fitness bootcamp since he was currently filming a Telenovela for Telemundo Relaciones Peligrosas and wanted to pack on some muscle.
While trying out my fitness bootcamp class I noticed his kung fu warrior spirit with the intensity, concentration, and focus he trained with. Earning a black belt in Hung Ga Kung Fu under Cepero is not an easy task and I was seeing the fruits of his training by the will power and intensity that he was training with. After class with a big smile he told me that he really enjoyed the class and wanted to sign up. I told him that I have trained numerous celebrities from Telemundo and Univision and knew that if he keep that intensity we could pack more muscle on him.
Andy and I have a lot in common and he has become part of my family. He is my eldest son’s age. My son is living in New York with his wife, yet without any other family. Andy is also here in Miami without any family members living here in Miami. Andy and I share the same spiritual faith, he started attending church at Iglesia Casa de Alabanza with my family in Doral. We both practice and love Hung Gar Kung Fu.
This kid has a great future. Andy is destined for greatness. He is only 22 years old, a brilliant bilingual actor, a martial artist and a great athlete. He has a few great projects coming up yet I would love to see him in a kung fu movie. I am honored and proud to be his strength and conditioning trainer but mostly his friend.
