Muay Thai Kickboxing is referred to as the Art of Eight Limbs. The hands, shins, elbows and knees are all used extensively in this martial art. As a practitioner of Muay Thai you will have the ability to execute blows using eight points of contact, as opposed to two points (fists) in boxing and four points (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts such as karate and tae kwon do.
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. Georges St Pierre said in Men’s Fitness magazine February 2010 issue that Muay Thai was what kept him in great shape and shredded. St Pierre is a former UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) champion and arguably the greatest UFC champion ever. Yet, most people have a misconception of Muay Thai. They think that it is brutal and barbaric, even thought it is partly true. In Thailand they start poor kids in Muay Thai as soon as they start walking in an effort to get the family out of poverty.
Muay Thai is a brutal sport. Yet, the way we teach it at Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense is totally safe. I’ve even trained some spanish celebrities that can not afford to get injured and bruise their face. I trained actor and telenovela star Gabriel Soto when he was living in Miami. Today I train Telemundo’s International anchorman Edgardo Del Villar.
