Xtreme Martial Arts (XMA) is the newest
and most spectacular craze to hit the martial arts world and tournament circuit.
There has not been such great excitement in the martial arts since the seventies
when Bruce Lee brought Kung Fu to the movies and the nineties when Billy Blanks
changed the fitness and martial arts industry with Tae Bo. If you’ve ever
watched a Hong Kong “Chop Sokey” Kung Fu movie you know
what XMA is all about. If you’ve seen “The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl
in 3 D” you’ve were watching an XMA World Champion playing Shark Boy. The XMA Revolution has begun! Today all major open martial
arts tournaments have exciting XMA divisions. It has its own documentary produced and
aired by the Discovery Channel. You can also see XMA
competitions on ESPN2 yearly when it covers the US Open Martial Arts
Championships.
The martial arts industry is undergoing a transformation and it’s called XMA. XMA is the transition of the martial arts from the traditional to the contemporary. XMA is about emotions and attitude. It can also be described as poetry in motion, expressing yourself as a warrior telling a story with your body using ancient oriental weapons or your empty hands. Before XMA numerous children watch movies and TV shows that portrait martial artist doing high flying kicks and exciting moves. Yet, when they signed up for their first class it was nothing like what they saw in the movies. They were given a dull white uniform and the instructor screamed commands in a foreign language. There were too many rules and their creativity was withheld due to the rules and respect to the ancient oriental Masters. There’s no wonder why most of them got bored and quite the martial arts within months of signing up. The sad part is that they would never reap the true benefits of the martial arts. Martial Arts are not just about kicking and punching, but about building ever lasting life skills, discipline, determination and respect.
XMA is the fusion of virtually every martial arts style Wushu (Kung Fu), Sport Karate, Tae Kwon Do blended together with high flying acrobatics, gymnastics and the hottest Hong Kong “Chop Soki” Kung Fu movie action. It combines the styles and philosophies of several athletic and artistic disciplines. XMA is entertainment of the highest level inspired by the late great Bruce Lee, Wushu, Chinese acrobats and the Cirque Du Soleil. XMA was conceived and developed by seven time World Forms and Weapons Champion and former Blue Power Ranger, Mike “Chat” Chaturantabut. This unique and dynamic system is backed by medical science and includes the cutting-edge martial arts choreography seen on the international tournament scene as well as Hollywood’s top grossing motion pictures and popular TV shows.
Taylor Lautner, XMA champion and Hollywood’s next super star got his break when he with thousand other hopeful actors tried out for Robert Rodriguez new Block Buster movie “The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3 D.” Taylor was asked to perform his favorite Super Hero pose. Taylor threw a kick while holding a one handed hand stand a signature XMA move. The rest was history. He just signed a staring role in “Cheaper by the Dozen 2.” I had the privilege to meet and see this outstanding young actor perform XMA in Las Vegas in April while I was training under XMA creator Mike Chat. Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense is now an authorized XMA training center. Who knows the next action movie hero might be training with us right here in Doral and a few years from now Doral won’t be know just for it’s great Golf tournament but also for the next great action hero.
